Leader of the Alternative Movement and Ogun State governorship aspirant, Segun Showunmi, on Tuesday visited an Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Wassa, Abuja, bringing relief materials and medical supplies to support displaced families.
During the visit, Showunmi engaged with residents and camp leaders, highlighting the urgent need to improve living conditions for displaced Nigerians. He expressed concern over the inadequate facilities and called on the Nyesom Wike and relevant authorities to intervene, ensuring IDPs are provided with safe, dignified, and humane living environments.
“What I have seen here today is deeply concerning. These are fellow Nigerians forced from their homes through no fault of theirs, and they deserve conditions that reflect dignity and humanity. Government must act decisively to improve their welfare and living standards,” Showunmi said.
He further emphasized the importance of long-term solutions, including access to education, healthcare, and opportunities that would enable displaced families to rebuild their lives with stability and hope.
Chairman of the Wassa IDP Camp, Geoffrey Bitrus, expressed gratitude for Showunmi’s support, noting that such gestures bring hope to residents, while appealing for sustained assistance from government agencies, humanitarian partners, and concerned Nigerians to address the pressing needs of the camp.
