ICPC, NASENI Forge Tech Alliance to Curb Corruption in Nigeria

Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, has called on the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) to leverage its technological expertise in the fight against corruption.

Dr. Aliyu made the appeal during a courtesy visit by NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman and CEO, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, and his team to the ICPC headquarters in Abuja.

Highlighting both the enabling and combating roles of technology in corruption, the ICPC boss disclosed that N1.6 billion was recently saved from diversion through tech-based interventions.

“We cannot fight corruption without being smart. Because of the deployment of technological tools, we were able to block N1.6 billion that could have been stolen,” he said.

Dr. Aliyu outlined key areas for collaboration between the two agencies:

  • Tracking of public funds and procurement, which he noted accounts for 70–80% of corruption cases;
  • Designing a secure whistleblower platform to boost information sharing and protection;
  • Strengthening NASENI’s Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU).

To cement the partnership, he proposed forming a Joint Innovation Task Team (JITT) and signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to guide long-term cooperation and action.

In his response, Mr. Halilu pledged NASENI’s technical support, especially in helping ICPC digitalize its internal operations to prevent data breaches and enhance institutional performance.

“We are keen to extend our partnership to the ICPC. There is an urgent need to digitalize internal processes to improve security and efficiency,” Halilu stated.

Both agencies reaffirmed their shared commitment to using innovation and strategic collaboration to strengthen Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts, ushering in a new era of tech-driven accountability.
