Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved the nomination of Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The approval followed the recommendation of the former governor by members of the Olubadan-in-Council. His coronation is scheduled for September 26 a day after he turns 81.
Makinde confirmed the decision during a visit to Ladoja’s residence on Ondo Street, Bodija, Ibadan. It was the governor’s first meeting with the Ibadan high chief since his return to the state after the passing of the late Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.
The development affirms Ladoja’s remarks on Monday, when he told guests that he would meet with relevant stakeholders including Governor Makinde, traditionalists such as the Oluwo and Araba to agree on the date for his installation.
Born in 1944, Ladoja will officially ascend the throne as the 44th Olubadan on September 26.
At the meeting, former President General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Chief Bayo Oyero, was appointed chairman of the Coronation Committee. Other members of the committee are yet to be announced.
Meanwhile, there are strong indications that the coronation may not hold at the historic Mapo Hall as earlier speculated, owing to the large number of guests expected. Sources disclosed that alternative venues being considered include the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, and the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium (formerly Liberty Stadium) in Oke Ado, Ibadan.
The final decision on the venue will be announced by the Coronation Committee.
