The House of Representatives on Thursday confirmed the appointment of Lt. Gen. Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the substantive Chief of Army Staff (COAS). This follows the consideration and approval of the report by the adhoc committee that screened Oluyede on Wednesday.
Lt. Gen. Oluyede had been serving in an acting capacity as COAS after the death of Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had subsequently forwarded his name to the National Assembly for screening and confirmation.
Babajimi Benson, Chairman of the adhoc committee, presented the report, stating that the committee had thoroughly reviewed Oluyede’s CV and questioned him on national security matters, to which he responded effectively. Benson expressed satisfaction with Oluyede’s experience and capability, recommending that his appointment be confirmed.
Following a clause-by-clause review of the report, the House approved the confirmation with an unanimous voice vote.
