Hardship: TUC Urges Urgent Action From Tinubu Government On Soaring Food Prices

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) President, Festus Osifo, has called on President Bola Tinubu’s government to swiftly address the escalating food prices and the general economic hardship facing Nigerians.
Osifo emphasized the need for tangible actions instead of meetings and rhetoric, expressing the frustrations of citizens grappling with the aftermath of the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira.
During an interview on Channels Television Politics Today, Osifo highlighted the substantial rise in commodity prices, stressing that the common man is finding it challenging to make ends meet.
“As an average Nigerian, one of the things you spend your hard-earned money on is actually food. The government must do something,” the TUC chief added.
“We’ve had a lot of rhetoric: ‘We’ve declared a state of emergency on food security’. We have had a lot of meetings and summits on issues like this. Nigerians are tired of meetings, summits, and rhetoric. Today, the cost of items in the market has skyrocketed and gone over the roof,” he said.
Despite government assurances that ongoing reforms will lead to a better tomorrow, protests have erupted in various states as Nigerians, facing economic difficulties, are running out of patience.
