Haaland Becomes Fastest to 50 Champions League Goals

Erling Haaland has etched his name into Champions League history, becoming the fastest player ever to score 50 goals in the competition.

The Manchester City striker reached the milestone in just his 49th appearance, netting the opener in City’s 2-0 victory over Napoli at the Etihad Stadium. Haaland’s achievement shattered the previous record held by Ruud van Nistelrooy, who needed 62 games to reach the same tally.

Napoli, reduced to 10 men, frustrated City in the first half as Serbian goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic produced a string of saves to keep out efforts from Phil Foden, Rodri, and Josko Gvardiol. The breakthrough finally came 11 minutes into the second half when Rodri fed Foden, whose lofted pass found Haaland. The Norwegian coolly headed the ball over Milinkovic-Savic to claim his historic 50th Champions League goal.

The victory also extended Napoli’s winless run on English soil to 13 matches across all competitions.

Haaland’s landmark strike underlines his remarkable efficiency in Europe’s elite competition and further cements his reputation as one of the most prolific forwards in modern football.
