Dr. Chike Akunyili’s murder has been condemned by the Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, David Umahi Governor of Ebonyi State.
The late Prof. Dora Akunyili, a former Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, was the deceased’s widower (NAFDAC).
Mr. Francis Nweze, Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity issued a statement made by Umahi who condemned the killing. The statement was released in Abakaliki on Wednesday.
The governor was particularly concerned about how Nigeria was losing so many of its best to terrorist strikes.
He expressed his condolences to the people of Agulu, the government of Anambra, and the entire South-East over the assassination of the stateman.
Umahi urged security authorities to rise to the occasion and apprehend all perpetrators of the heinous act so that they can be brought to justice.
“We condemn the act on behalf of the Governors of the South-East. It is not only barbarous but also unfitting to our culture that human lives are no longer valued.
“We give security agencies the green light to go all out to find and apprehend the perpetrators of this inhumane act and bring them to justice,” Umahi added.
He also urged the people of the South-East to work with relevant security agencies, such as the Ebubeagu regional security organization, to eradicate insecurity in the region.
