Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has officially appointed new second-class emirs for the Gaya, Karaye, and Rano Emirates.
This announcement was made by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Director General of Media and Publicity to the governor, in a statement released to newsmen in Kano.
The newly appointed emirs are:
Alhaji Muhammad Maharaz Karaye as Emir of Karaye. Prior to this, he served as the District Head of Rogo.
Alhaji Muhammad Isa Umar as Emir of Rano. Before his appointment, Umar was the District Head of Bunkure.
Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir Gaya, the deposed emir of Gaya, has been reinstated to his former position.
Unlike other deposed emirs, Abdulkadir accepted his removal gracefully and expressed his readiness to serve in any capacity.
Governor Yusuf congratulated the newly appointed emirs, urging them to uphold the cultural heritage, peace, and unity of their respective Emirates. “These appointments are effective immediately,” the statement affirmed.
During the announcement, Governor Yusuf emphasized that the establishment of the Emirates signifies the government’s acknowledgment of the importance of the traditional institution.
