Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has called on leaders of the Muslim community in the state to reject any efforts aimed at dividing the people along religious lines.
During a meeting with Muslim leaders on Tuesday, Makinde emphasized the importance of unity, urging religious leaders to be vigilant against individuals or groups seeking to profit from sowing division. He appealed to those attempting to use religion as a tool for political gain to reconsider their actions.
“The people of Oyo State are united, and we must not allow anyone to exploit our differences for personal or political gain,” Makinde stated. He reminded the leaders that whatever is done for the state will ultimately benefit future administrations.
The governor also addressed the recent stampede at Islamic High School in Bashorun, Ibadan, assuring the public that justice would be served to prevent such incidents from recurring. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the rule of law is upheld in the state.
Makinde concluded by urging all stakeholders to prioritize unity and the rule of law, warning that those trying to divide the people would be exposed.
