Governor Fubara Presents Staff of Office to Four Newly Recognized Monarchs in Rivers State

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has officially recognized four new traditional rulers in the state by presenting them with staff of office and certificates. Among those honored was Mujahid Asari Dokubo, a former Niger Delta freedom fighter, who was named His Royal Highness, the Amanyanabo of Torusarama Piri in Degema Local Government Area.

Other newly recognized monarchs include HRM Winston Odize Alamina Oputibeya XII as the Amanyanabo of Koniju in Okrika Local Government Area, HRM Eze Noble Friday Uwoh (CSP rtd) as the Eze Igbu-Ehuda IV in Ahoada-East Local Government Area, and HRH Prince Ike Ehie as the Eze Igbu Orilukwoe, also in Ahoada-East.

The ceremony, held at the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, marked the official recognition of these monarchs as leaders and cultural custodians within their communities. Governor Fubara emphasized the critical role traditional rulers play in promoting unity, peace, and development in the state.

Fubara urged the monarchs to view their new positions as a call to serve and assist the government in protecting lives and property within their domains, rather than using their power for personal gain. He encouraged them to partner with the government to ensure the success of the administration and the protection of citizens.

The governor reminded the monarchs that the government retains the authority to withdraw recognition should they misuse their positions but made it clear that he did not intend to exercise this power. He further appealed to them to avoid creating problems in their communities, stressing that they should work in collaboration with the government to help deliver the benefits of democracy to the people.

Engr Charles Amadi, the State Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, noted that the newly recognized rulers include two Royal Majesties and two Royal Highnesses and commended Governor Fubara for expanding the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers.
