Governor Eno to Commissioners: Stay Accountable or Get Fired

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has issued a strong warning to his cabinet, declaring that any commissioner absent from his official engagements whether scheduled or unscheduled will be dismissed immediately.

During an unscheduled inspection of the Judiciary Village project in Uyo on Friday, Governor Eno expressed frustration at the absence of key commissioners, describing their conduct as unacceptable.

“That’s like four commissioners and I’ve not found them,” Eno said. “From today, if I go somewhere and the commissioner responsible is not there, he or she will lose their job right there and then.”

He emphasized that all cabinet members must treat their roles as full-time responsibilities and be present at every official engagement. “This is a full-time job. If any commissioner is busy doing their own thing, they are not ready for the job,” he said.

Reiterating that his humility should not be mistaken for weakness, Eno directed that a memo be issued mandating all commissioners to remain at events until he has returned to his lodge or office.

He reminded his cabinet that he was elected by the people, not appointed, and therefore deserves the respect and coordination befitting the office.
