Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has highlighted his administration’s transformative achievements over the past five years, describing them as a “silent economic revolution” that has driven significant progress across key sectors of the state’s economy.
Speaking on Friday during the 14th Annual Lecture and Award ceremony organized by the Nigerian News Direct Newspaper at the Oriental Hotel, Lagos, Abiodun reflected on the infrastructural deficits his government inherited in 2019, particularly in border communities and Federal highways. Despite the challenges, he expressed satisfaction with the improvements made for the benefit of Ogun State residents.
Represented by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Kayode Akinmade, the governor received the Man of the Year Award at the event themed “Achieving Economic Prosperity: The Role of Human Capacity Development, Fiscal Prudence, and Revenue Generation.” He reaffirmed his commitment to leaving behind a legacy of growth and prosperity in the Gateway State.
Abiodun cited key achievements, including:
- The construction of over 600 kilometers of roads across the three Senatorial Districts.
- The establishment of a world-class agro-cargo airport.
- An increase in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), making Ogun the most viable state in Nigeria for IGR generation.
He also highlighted reforms that have enhanced Ogun’s business environment, positioning it as Nigeria’s leading state in Ease of Doing Business and an investor destination of choice.
Abiodun noted that Ogun State is now home to over 6,000 manufacturing firms located in various industrial clusters, significantly contributing to both the state’s microeconomic stability and the country’s macroeconomic growth.
The governor pledged to continue driving development that positively impacts the lives of Ogun State citizens.
