Gov Sanwo-Olu OKs Wage Award, 50% December Bonus For Civil Servants

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has granted approval for the payment of wage awards and a 50% bonus of basic salary as a December incentive to all civil servants in the state. 
This decision, was disclosed by the Head of Service, Bode Agoro, in a circular dated December 14, 2023, titled ‘2023 End of Year Bonus and Implementation of Wage Awards.’
Sanwo-Olu also extends the bonus to political appointees and public servants, including employees of Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) and the Lagos Neighborhood Safety Corps (LNSC).
Upon approving the implementation of the Wage Award (PALLIATIVE) while awaiting the review of the National Minimum Wage, Agoro announced that the state government would not tax the 50% bonus and wage award.
“As part of the present Administration’s continuous appreciation of the contributions of all Public Servants towards the advancement of the State and its unrelenting commitment to the welfare of its workforce, it is hereby notified for general information that Mr. Governor has graciously approved the payment of 50% of Basic Salary as End-of-Year Bonus for all Political Appointees and Public Servants, including employees of Local Governments & Local Council Development Areas, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) and Lagos Neighborhood Safety Corps (LNSC),” the statement read.
“In the same vein, Mr. Governor has further approved the implementation of the Wage Award (PALLIATIVE) pending the review of the National Minimum Wage.
“Therefore, the 50% of the Basic Salary as an End-of-Year Bonus, as well as the Wage Award (PALLIATIVE), will be paid alongside the December 2023 salary as a ‘NON TAXABLE ELEMENT.’
“Sequel to the foregoing, Public Servants are implored to continually strive for excellence in providing qualitative service delivery to the people of the State in line with Mr. Governor’s THEMES+ Agenda.
“Accordingly, all Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) are hereby enjoined to the content of this Circular and give it the Service-wide publicity it deserves.”
Sanwo-Olu Unveils N750 Million Trader Money Initiative
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has initiated a trader money initiative to support market men and women in the state, allocating N750 million for the purpose.
The announcement was made during the inauguration of the food Agro-hub in the Mushin Idi-Oro area of Lagos. Sanwo-Olu stated that 15,000 traders would each receive N50,000 to boost their businesses.
The governor emphasized that this initiative is in line with his promise to traders and is set to commence before the end of 2023. He outlined the plan to select 200 traders from each local government area to ensure equitable distribution of the N750 million among traders across the state.
Sanwo-Olu highlighted that the mid-level Agro-hub in Mushin Idi-Oro would be duplicated across the five divisions of the state for the overall benefit of the people.
The modern market covers 6,400 square meters, providing ample parking space (3,017 square meters) for trailers and vehicles. It includes centralized wet and dry storage areas for bulk buying.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Abisola Olusanya, emphasized that the launch of this new food distribution model aims to address issues related to post-harvest losses, inflation, carbon footprint, and traffic congestion. She expressed the state government’s commitment to achieving the food systems Agenda as part of Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda.
