Gov. Obaseki, Christian Leaders Launch Feeding Programme in Edo State

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, in collaboration with leaders from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), and other Christian organizations, has inaugurated the second phase of the Christian Feeding Programme (CFP).
This initiative aims to distribute 56,250 bags of 10KG rice across the state’s three senatorial districts to alleviate the hardships faced by residents.
Governor Obaseki commenced the distribution in the Edo South Senatorial District and inspected the warehouse at the Dioceses of Benin Anglican Communion on Evbiemwen Street in Benin City. CAN Chairman Apostle Irekpono Omoike detailed the distribution plan: Edo South will receive 21,875 bags, Edo Central will get 15,625 bags, and Edo North will receive 18,750 bags.
Obaseki highlighted that the first phase of the programme, which occurred three months ago, aimed to alleviate the land’s hardships. He expressed gratitude to the Christian leaders for their commitment to the programme’s success, emphasizing that the scheme is apolitical and managed by the Church itself.
Urging the Federal Government to take a cue from Edo State’s example, Obaseki emphasized the programme’s transparency and efficiency in reaching over 50,000 families. “If things are done properly in this country, the resources of the nation will go a long way to serve the people. We know there are challenges, but the current leadership is not helping Nigerians. Look at how this programme has been run successfully and transparently. The Federal Government should come learn from Edo State.”
He appealed to citizens to refrain from actions that could worsen the current situation and promised further engagement with the community to resolve issues collaboratively. The governor explained that the second phase aims to build on the trust established in the first phase and correct any mistakes, with the third phase set to include conditional cash transfers, skills programmes, and support in agriculture, trade, and micro-finance.
CAN Chairman Apostle Omoike thanked Governor Obaseki for his support and commitment to easing the burdens caused by subsidy removal. He acknowledged the comprehensive palliative programme initiated by the governor to mitigate the hardships faced by the people, with the CFP being a significant part of these efforts.
