Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers State, has refuted claims that his administration has been taking loans to fund projects. Speaking during the inauguration of the 11.8km Okehi-Umuola-Eberi road connecting Etche and Omuma Local Government Areas (LGAs) on Wednesday, the governor clarified that his administration only secured a ₦200 billion loan specifically for the ring road project linking six LGAs.
Fubara insisted that his government has not borrowed for any other projects, urging residents to verify this information with the Debt Management Office (DMO).
“We stand to be challenged. This administration has not borrowed to execute projects,” Fubara stated. “The only loan we secured was for the Ring Road project, and everyone is aware of it. Go to the DMO, check for yourself. We haven’t asked for any other loans.”
He emphasized that despite financial constraints, his administration remains committed to improving the welfare of Rivers State residents. Fubara praised the contractor for delivering the road project on time and thanked the communities of Etche and Omuma for their support.
He also pledged to continue infrastructure development in the state, promising further road and healthcare projects for the residents of Etche and Omuma.
