Gasoline Tanker Explosion in Texas Leaves Driver Critically Injured

A gasoline tanker truck erupted into flames early Sunday in Fort Worth, Texas, after colliding with another vehicle and bringing down power lines, authorities said. The driver remains in critical condition.

The 18-wheeler, carrying approximately 9,000 gallons of gasoline, veered off the roadway near a Valero gas station following the crash. Fuel began leaking from the tanker before the downed power lines ignited the spill around 1 a.m., according to Fort Worth Fire Department spokesperson Craig Trojacek.

“The driver was attempting to prevent the gasoline from draining into the gas station parking lot when it ignited,” Trojacek said.

The driver sustained severe burns and was transported to a hospital. No other injuries were reported.

Emergency crews worked for several hours to contain the fire, dousing the tanker with water and deploying sand to limit the spread of fuel. Firefighters remained on scene until approximately 7 a.m.

Video footage circulating online shows the front of the truck engulfed in flames, with thick plumes of smoke rising into the air.

A nearby resident, Bailey Moss, said he heard “a loud crash” before looking outside and witnessing the blaze.
