FRSC Launches “Operation Show Your Driver’s Licence”

The Lagos State Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) will launch ‘Operation Show Your Driver’s Licence and Vehicle License Phase II’ on Monday.
Olusegun Ogungbemide, the state’s Corps Commander, announced this in a statement made accessible to journalists on Sunday in Lagos.
Mr. Ogungbemide stated that a situation in which car drivers, tricycle riders, and bike riders would be on the road without valid driver’s licenses was no longer acceptable.
The sector commander bemoaned the high incidence of unpicked permanent driver’s licenses at all of the state’s driver’s license stations.
“The first phase of the special patrol tagged ‘Operation Show your driver’s licence’ showed that some motorists still drive without their valid driver’s licence while some don’t have at all.
“With the recent increase in vehicular movements as a result of the ember months, there is the need for all drivers to be handy with their driver’s licences.

“The exercise will ensure all drivers have valid vehicle papers as the command begins ‘Operation Show Your Driver’s Licence and Vehicle licence.’”
Mr. Ogungbemide added that the operation would begin on Monday, October 4 and terminate on October 10 throughout all of the state’s commands at the same time.
All vehicles impounded would not be released until their drivers could produce proof of holding the required documents, he said.
Regulation 67(1) of the National Road Traffic Regulations (NRTR) 2021 requires everyone driving a vehicle on a public road to have an original driver’s license, according to the state commander.
Mr Ogungbemide, on the other hand, stated that if a person has a photocopy of the original driver’s license, he should show the original driver’s license to the proper authority within 24 hours.
“Regulation (2) also stated that any person who contravenes the provision of regulation 67(1) commits an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine of #10,000 or to a term of one year imprisonment or to both.
“For motorists who drive without vehicle licences, Regulation 67(3) states that any person driving a vehicle must be in possession of at least the photocopy of the vehicle particulars.
“The original shall be provided to the appropriate authority within 24 hours if demanded.
“Regulations 67(4) says any person who contravenes the provisions of regulation 67(3) commits an offence and shall be liable to a fine of #3,000 or six months imprisonment or to both,” he said.
Mr. Ogungbemide cautioned all road users to make sure they had all of the essential documents to drive on the road.
He also advised all drivers to drive at a safe speed and avoid traveling at night so that they may always have a pleasant driving experience.
