Former One Direction star Liam Payne has died after reportedly falling from the third floor of his hotel in Argentina, according to state police.
Emergency services were called on Wednesday evening after reports of a man acting erratically, possibly under the influence, said Alberto Crescenti, the director of Buenos Aires Emergency Medical Services (SAME), said in an interview with ABC News.
Payne’s body was found in the inner courtyard of the hotel, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, Crescenti confirmed. The incident occurred at the CasaSur Hotel in Palermo, Buenos Aires.
Crescenti told local media outlet TN that Payne fell from a height of about 42 to 45 feet, describing his injuries as “very serious” and “incompatible with life.” Emergency services responded to the scene within seven minutes of receiving the call, but Crescenti said there was no chance to save him. The English singer was 31 years old.
Payne rose to fame as a member of One Direction after competing on “X Factor” in 2010, alongside Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson. The band announced a hiatus in 2015, after which Payne launched a solo career, releasing the hit song “Strip That Down” in 2017 and his debut album “LP1” in 2019.
