Former Olympic Snowboarder Ryan Wedding Accused of Leading Billion-Dollar Drug Trafficking Operation

Former Olympic snowboarder Ryan Wedding has been accused of leading a massive transnational drug trafficking operation that allegedly smuggled huge quantities of cocaine and orchestrated multiple murders, according to federal authorities.

Wedding, 43, a Canadian Olympian now living in Mexico, is one of 16 individuals charged in a federal indictment, the Department of Justice announced on Thursday.

The criminal organization, described as “prolific and ruthless,” is accused of shipping “tons of cocaine” into the U.S. and Canada, U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada said at a press conference.

“They were killers,” Estrada said. “Anyone who stood in their way was met with violence, including murder.”

Wedding allegedly managed the billion-dollar drug ring from Mexico for the last 13 years, moving around 60 tons of cocaine annually, Estrada added.
