Olakunle Oluomo, a former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, along with two other principal career officers of the assembly, Dayo Samuel and Adeyemo Adedeji, appeared before a Federal High Court in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.
The court session was presided over by Justice O.O Okeke.
They were brought before the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on charges of misappropriating public funds amounting to N2.5 billion.
The alleged financial fraud occurred during Oluomo’s tenure as the speaker in 2022.
In response to allegations of highhandedness and misconduct, 18 out of 26 house members signed for his impeachment. However, Oluomo contested his removal in the state high court.
During the court proceedings on Monday, the counsel representing the anti-graft agency was absent, leading to an adjournment of the case to February 29th and March 1st.
