Former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters Sentenced to Nine Years for Election Security Breach

Tina Peters, the former Mesa County, Colorado, clerk, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for orchestrating a security breach of the county’s election system. Peters, inspired by false claims of voting fraud following the 2020 presidential election, was convicted for allowing unauthorized access to election software, which was later leaked to right-wing websites.

Peters granted access to a person linked to Mike Lindell, a Trump ally and MyPillow CEO. District Judge Matthew Barrett condemned Peters, stating, “You abused your position and continue to spread falsehoods.” Despite her plea for probation, Peters was sentenced for election tampering and misconduct, marking a significant case in the aftermath of the 2020 election.
