FG Unveils Policy To Address Core Issues Faced By IDPs

Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) policy was unveiled by the federal government yesterday as part of efforts to address the core causes of the issues they face in the nation.

The strategy was also developed to give both preventative and long-term solutions to difficulties.

Sadiya Umar Farouq, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, stated this at the First Humanitarian Open House and the Launch of the IDPs Policy in Abuja yesterday.

Farouq welcomed the initiative, saying it will serve as a blueprint for the organization’s work and aid in providing coordinated support to IDPs.

To ensure that the policy has a well-defined procedure, Farouq said the ministry has inaugurated the technical working group that will come up with an action plan.

Stressing the need to implement the policy, she said amidst humanitarian crisis, while others are sadly being displaced and becoming IDPs, others are being safely reintegrated back into society.

On the humanitarian hub, she said as an integral part of the Open House the Humanitarian Hub has been created as a veritable platform for the ministry, its agencies, partners, and stakeholders to engage and connect with visitors, media, and other partners and stakeholders.

Beyond the robust information sharing, she said the Humanitarian Hub is expected to provide an opportunity for networking and sharing global best practices that will increase partnerships and collaborations and result in more impact and solutions for humanitarian challenges and social protection in Nigeria.
