The Federal Government has stated that it intends to collaborate with the People’s Republic of China to establish a renewable energy research center that would help to advance renewable energy technologies in Nigerian universities.
The Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation announced on Friday.
“The proposed partnership between the Chinese and Nigerian universities is expected to build and upgrade centers of excellence in renewable energy technologies which include green energy – solar, wind, hydro, bio-energy, energy efficiency and management,” it said.
According to the statement, the Minister of State for Science, Technology, and Innovation, Mohammed Abdullahi, received a donation of solar panel equipment on behalf of the ministry from the Department of Commerce of Yunan Province and Kunming Engineering Corporation Ltd of the People’s Republic of China during a courtesy call to the ministry by Ji Yuxin, the country representative of Power China in Nigeria.
Abdullahi stated that China’s assistance will aid in stemming the flow of rural-urban migration, citing a shortage of power as the main issue in rural regions.
