FG Targets One Million Nigerians for Digital Skills Training

The Federal Government has inaugurated a Joint Implementation Committee to oversee the training and certification of one million Nigerians in digital literacy and emerging technology skills, a major step toward accelerating the country’s digital transformation.

The committee was inaugurated on Tuesday in Abuja by Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, represented by Ibrahim Kana, Permanent Secretary of the SGF’s General Services Office.

“This inauguration marks a significant milestone in the Federal Government’s strategic commitment to deepening national digital literacy, strengthening human capital, and promoting inclusive digital transformation in line with national development priorities,” Akume said. He noted that the initiative aligns with the Digital Transformation Agenda, the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, and President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, targeting 95 per cent digital literacy by 2030.

While the programme is supported by federal institutions, Akume explained that it is fully funded and implemented by Clergywealth Cooperative Society Limited. The initiative builds on resolutions from the 13th National Council on Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy meeting in December 2025, including adopting the Future Proof Economy (FPE) model as the framework for nationwide digital literacy delivery.

The committee’s responsibilities include:

·       Planning the National Digital Literacy Conference

·       Overseeing the rollout of digital literacy and emerging skills training under the FPE model

·       Ensuring alignment with national policies

·       Coordinating with ministries, states, private sector partners, academia, development partners, and civil society

·       Establishing monitoring and evaluation mechanisms

Members were drawn from the Office of the SGF, the Federal Ministries of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Education, Youth Development, and Information and National Orientation, as well as TETFund, NITDA, state representatives, ICT professionals, and civil society organisations.

Akume emphasised that the committee is central to enhancing human capital development, preparing Nigeria’s workforce for the digital economy, and supporting sustainable, inclusive digital growth nationwide.
