To pave the way for the construction of the 4.2km second runway at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, the Federal Government has approved N825.819 billion as compensation for residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Abuja.
Following a negotiation meeting in Abuja with the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, officials from both ministries, representatives of their agencies, and stakeholders from Jiwa, the affected community, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, announced the development.
In order to complete the 4.2 km second Abuja runway project, which was originally awarded in 2022, the FCT minister claimed that N825.8 billion would be used to compensate community residents.
Wike declared that the FCT will construct a 5km bridge in the Tunga Madaki community and provide a modern healthcare facility expected to serve as a temporary resettlement site for the indigenes.
The FCT minister also instructed the contractors to pick up where they left off while pledging to release the approved funds starting on Wednesday.
Recall that the Jiwa community had earlier begun talks with the Federal Government and demanded N2.5 million per hectare in compensation.
