FG OKs N25,000 Grants For Pensioners

Betta Edu
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu has said that members of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) who are included on the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) Scheme’s expanded National Social Register will begin receiving N25,000 grants in November.
According to a statement made by Rasheed Olanrewaju Zubair, Edu revealed this on Thursday when she visited the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) leadership in Abuja, which is led by its president, Joe Ajaero.
She went on to say that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s promise to labour leaders to include vulnerable pensioners in the CCT scheme was a promise he would keep.
She appealed to the NLC to help fast-track the process of collating Data of beneficiaries so that they can start receiving the funds.
The beneficiaries could start earning from November, the minister said, if the data could be compiled and given to the ministry in less than two weeks.
Ajaero, for his part, asked the government to increase employment through fostering a prosperous economy that supports operating enterprises that employ people.
Godwin Abumisi, the president of NUP, expressed regret that pensioners only received as little as N5,000 per month and added that the N25,000 would go a long way for them.
