The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, announced that the Federal Government has commenced constructing a second runway at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Speaking during a ministerial press briefing on Monday, Keyamo highlighted that the project had faced delays and controversies since the Obasanjo administration.
“The necessity of a second runway has long been a critical issue for the nation’s capital. It is inconceivable that a nation’s capital would be operating on one runway,” he stated. Keyamo confirmed that contractors have already moved to the site and construction has begun.
In addition to this development, Keyamo emphasized the ministry’s commitment to strict safety regulations and improving Nigeria’s rating by the International Civil Aviation Organisation.
He also announced the resumption of cargo flights between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia, which had been suspended for a long time, as part of a broader strategy to enhance Nigeria’s participation in global air cargo trade.
