At least three New York City hotels that have housed migrants or homeless individuals have been issued federal subpoenas as part of an ongoing immigration investigation.
The Roosevelt Hotel, Row NYC, and Hotel Chandler received the subpoenas, which request resident lists related to an alleged violation of federal immigration laws. While the Roosevelt and Row NYC have been used as migrant shelters, Hotel Chandler primarily serves as a homeless shelter. However, the Candler Building on West 42nd Street—previously used to house migrants—has also been linked to the investigation.
Law enforcement sources indicate that The Roosevelt Hotel, Row NYC, and the Candler Building have been associated with migrant gang activity. Despite the scope of the federal probe, no city employees have been subpoenaed, and New York City itself does not appear to be a direct target of the investigation.
A spokesperson for Mayor Eric Adams declined to comment on the matter, stating, “We cannot comment on any type of federal investigation.”
The development coincides with former Trump administration immigration chief Tom Homan’s announcement that he and Mayor Adams are scheduled to meet again this week.
Homan claimed that Adams had “made commitments” but noted that a formal agreement has yet to be finalized. He also reiterated that ICE will continue conducting arrests in New York State, regardless of whether local and state law enforcement cooperate.
“We are going to do our job, despite this administration,” Homan said. “We will arrest public safety threats, we will arrest national security threats, and if necessary, we will double the manpower here. Instead of one officer making an arrest in a jail, we now have to send an entire team for officer safety. It’s very inefficient.”
Homan emphasized that ICE is prepared to increase its presence in New York to ensure enforcement continues. “We will send more officers into the city to get the job done,” he said.
