Fear Grips Ozoro As Female Students Flee After Festival Violence

Panic has spread across Ozoro in Delta State following the assault of several women during a traditional festival, forcing many female students to leave the area over fears of further attacks.

The unrest stems from the controversial “Alue-Do” festival, where disturbing videos showed women being chased, stripped, and assaulted by groups of youths—triggering outrage nationwide.
A student leader revealed that fear has taken over the community, with many female students relocating as the festival reportedly continues.
“Most of the female students in the community are scared, especially when they were told that the festival is meant to last for seven days,” the source said.
The situation has left residents anxious, with concerns growing about the possibility of repeated violence. The student leader also alleged that some students were involved in the attacks, describing the situation as deeply troubling.
He stressed that all perpetrators must face justice, insisting they should be treated as criminals regardless of status.
While no confirmed rape cases have been reported among students, some victims were treated for assault in hospitals.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force in Delta has arrested more suspects linked to the incident, bringing the total number in custody to 15. Authorities said the arrests followed detailed analysis of viral footage and intelligence gathering.
Police spokesperson Bright Edafe stated that those responsible were criminal elements who took advantage of the festival, emphasizing that such acts have no place in any legitimate cultural practice.
The Nigerian Bar Association strongly condemned the incident, calling it a “national disgrace” and urging authorities to ensure all culprits are prosecuted.
Advocacy groups have also called on the Delta State Government to take decisive action, including investigating the role of traditional authorities and preventing any recurrence of such violence.
