Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose on Sunday held a private meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Fayose arrived at the OOPL complex in the afternoon, where he was received by Obasanjo’s aides before proceeding to the former president’s residence. The meeting, which lasted for over an hour, was held behind closed doors.
Although details of their discussions were not disclosed, sources described the visit as a personal interaction. However, the timing has generated significant political speculation as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) intensifies internal reconciliation efforts and expands consultations ahead of possible political realignments.
Fayose a prominent PDP figure known for his outspoken political stance — has in recent weeks pushed for stronger unity among southern leaders. Analysts say his visit to Obasanjo, a longstanding influencer in Nigeria’s political landscape, aligns with ongoing engagements within the opposition camp.
Political observers note that the meeting adds to the wave of backstage consultations taking place as key actors quietly reposition ahead of future elections.
