Former Minister of Power, Works, and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has called on Nigerian youths to remain in the country and work toward its improvement rather than seeking opportunities abroad. Speaking at the 8th and 9th convocation ceremonies of Elizade University in Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State, Fashola acknowledged the economic challenges but encouraged young people to strive for decision-making roles within Nigeria.
Referencing Nigerian success stories, Fashola pointed to business icons like Folorunso Alakija and Tunde Afolabi, who stayed in Nigeria despite hardships, and highlighted the commitment of Chief Michael Ade-Ojo, founder of Elizade University. “Without Ade-Ojo’s dedication, Elizade University would not exist today,” Fashola noted, urging youth to contribute similarly to national progress.
Ade-Ojo expressed pride in seeing the university’s graduates succeed globally, noting that his investment in the school was “intentionally sacrificial” to advance world-class education within Nigeria. He encouraged the institution to prioritize research and entrepreneurship to prepare students for impactful contributions to society. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kayode Ijadunola reinforced this vision, emphasizing Elizade University’s mission to develop graduates ready to address Nigeria’s economic and technological challenges.
