Factional Speaker Loyal To Fubara Resigns From Rivers Assembly

Hon. Edision Ehie, the factional Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, has resigned from his position as the Speaker and member of the Assembly representing Ahaoda East Constituency 2.
In his resignation letter dated December 29, 2023, addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ehie did not specify the reason for his resignation. However, he expressed gratitude to his colleagues in the Assembly for the good working relationship and thanked his constituency for their support throughout his tenure.
Ehie, initially the majority leader of the 10th Rivers State House of Assembly, faced suspension from the House following a failed impeachment process against Governor Similanayi Fubara. Subsequently, after his suspension, Ehie declared himself the factional speaker of the Assembly, aligning with four members.
Governor Similanayi Fubara, during the presentation of the State’s 2024 appropriation bill, was accompanied by four members of the Assembly led by Ehie, demonstrating their loyalty.
Ehie’s resignation is speculated to be linked to the eight-point resolution agreed upon during a recent peace meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. As part of the resolution, it was suggested that Ehie step aside for a pro-Wike Speaker, Martins Amaehwule.
