Enugu International Airport Set to Resume Operations After Urgent Repairs

The Federal Government has announced that Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu will reopen on Monday following the successful completion of emergency repairs on its runway.

The airport had been temporarily closed on April 18 by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) after a significant rupture was discovered in the runway’s asphalt surface, necessitating urgent repairs. The closure raised concerns, as the damage required immediate attention to ensure the safety of flights.

Obiageli Orah, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, confirmed that the repairs, originally scheduled to run until May 6, 2025, were expedited, allowing the airport to reopen sooner than anticipated. “The rehabilitation works on the runway have now been completed, and the runway is cleared for landings and takeoffs,” Orah stated.

FAAN expressed gratitude to all airport users and stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation during the closure and apologized for any inconvenience caused. The agency reassured the public that the repairs were necessary to maintain flight safety.
