President Bola Tinubu has ordered a comprehensive overhaul of national security strategies to combat the escalating violence in Borno, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara states. The directive followed a two-hour meeting with security chiefs at the State House in Abuja, where the President expressed strong condemnation of the ongoing violence.
“Enough is enough,” President Tinubu declared, reaffirming his commitment to ending the targeting of innocent civilians in these regions.
National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu, who briefed the press after the meeting, shared that the President had called for a new approach to tackling insecurity. Ribadu noted that even while abroad for work visits in Paris and London, President Tinubu remained actively engaged, monitoring the situation and issuing directives.
Ribadu emphasized that the President’s new strategy involves greater collaboration with local councils and state governments, as security issues often stem from community-level problems. “Insecurity often involves local units that are closer to the people,” he explained.
The NSA concluded by stressing the President’s determination to work closely with governors and security forces to restore peace and security, addressing the growing threat posed by Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and governance challenges in affected areas.
