Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, the former Minister of Aviation, was summoned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday over allegations of falsification of medical records to excuse his ongoing absence from his money laundering trial.
An EFCC officer, who did not want his name used, informed LEADERSHIP that the former minister was questioned about the subject when he arrived at the commission’s Lagos headquarters at 1pm.
He said Fani-Kayode was summoned to the Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday to answer questions on the forging of a medical report to avoid his trial.
According to the source, early investigations by the committee revealed that the former minister’s medical report was forged.
On October 13, 2021, Justice Daniel Osiagor of the Federal High Court in Lagos fined Fani-Kayode N200,000 for failing to appear before the court for re-arraignment.
Fani-Kayode is on trial with former Finance Minister Nenadi Usman and two others on a 17-count allegation of conspiracy and money laundering, but the case was remanded to Justice Osiagor owing to the removal of the prior trial judge, Justice Rilwan Aikawa.
