Dozens of people have been reported injured after a truck struck a bus stop near an Israeli military base in what is suspected to be a deliberate attack. The incident occurred in Glilot, just north of Tel Aviv, leaving at least six people in serious condition and others trapped under the wreckage.
Local reports indicate that armed civilians in the area shot and “neutralized” the truck driver, who allegedly targeted the bus stop deliberately. Israeli police stated that they are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Israeli television channels broadcast scenes of police cordoning off the area as emergency responders assisted the injured, while a helicopter hovered overhead.
“At 10:08 AM, a report was received in MDA’s 101 Emergency Call Center in the Yarkon Region of a truck hitting a bus stop on Aharon Yariv Boulevard in Ramat Hasharon,” Israel’s emergency services said in a statement. They added that paramedics are providing medical treatment to dozens of casualties.
A spokesperson for Israel’s ambulance service, quoted by the newspaper Haaretz, stated that many of the injured were elderly citizens who had just disembarked from a bus ahead of a visit to the nearby Israel Defense Forces (IDF) base in Glilot.
