President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors-designate to Nigerian diplomatic missions across the world, including key representations at the United Nations. The move is aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic presence in major global capitals.
The list includes 31 non-career ambassadors and 34 career diplomats. Their nominations were initially submitted by the President in November and later confirmed by the Senate of Nigeria in December 2025 following legislative screening.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the Presidency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nigeria has begun diplomatic procedures for their deployment. The United Kingdom has already granted agreement for High Commissioner-designate Aminu Dalhatu, while France has approved Ayodele Oke as Nigeria’s ambassador.
“The Ministry has also conveyed the nominations of the other 62 designated envoys to all the countries concerned, including a request for their agréments in line with standard diplomatic practice,” the statement said.
President Tinubu has also directed the ministry to immediately commence the induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and High Commissioners.
The appointments come after months of diplomatic vacancies that analysts previously said created gaps in Nigeria’s foreign representation across several important international missions.
