Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has warned that commissioners who fail to deliver on their responsibilities will be removed from his cabinet.
The governor issued the warning on Monday during the inauguration of newly constructed duplexes at the commissioners’ quarters in Asaba, the state capital.
Dispelling rumours of a full cabinet shake-up, Oborevwori clarified that only non-performing commissioners would be dropped.
“If you are not performing, we will drop you. And that will not affect others. If you are performing, you will stay,” he stated.
The governor disclosed that two or three commissioners have already been identified as underperforming and that he confronted one of them earlier in the day at the government chapel.
Oborevwori emphasized that each commissioner must take initiative and show visible results:
“As a commissioner, we don’t see you. You come with your memo and look for the governor, but the governor will not come looking for you. You must bring energy and initiative to your ministry.”
He added that any ministry performing poorly would be a direct reflection on its commissioner and stressed that responsibility lies squarely with those heading the ministries.
The governor also spoke about his administration’s infrastructure push, stating that several projects are ready for commissioning:
“We have many projects to commission. We may not complete them all by year-end, but we will do our best.”
During the event, eight new units of four-bedroom duplexes, each with two boys’ quarters, were officially unveiled. Oborevwori said the expansion was necessary to accommodate the growing number of commissioners, as only 22 buildings previously existed in the commissioners’ quarters.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of senior government officials and promised to continue delivering development across the state.
