Dele Momodu Criticizes Tinubu for Appointing Incompetent Friends to Cabinet

Dele Momodu, a seasoned journalist and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of filling his cabinet with incompetent friends.
In an interview with Channels TV on Monday, July 22, Momodu criticized Tinubu’s approach, stating that the President’s attempt to replicate his Lagos governance style in Abuja is leading to failure.
Reacting to the current economic crisis, Momodu remarked, “It is difficult to name 10 out of Tinubu’s ministers or appointees alongside their accomplishments.”
He expressed frustration with the appointment process, saying, “I have travelled to Australia. There is nowhere you would not meet Nigerians doing great things. Where are those people? In Nigeria today it is either you are the son of, the daughter of… Nigeria cannot continue to operate on basis of compensation. ‘I must compensate my friend, my former schoolmate.’”
Momodu further elaborated on the dependency of Tinubu’s cabinet members: “A lot of the people in his cabinet now, their lives totally depend on Tinubu. They can’t tell him the truth. I know what a lot of them say behind when they see us.”
Highlighting his belief in a merit-based cabinet, Momodu said, “What we have today is that someone tried to transfer the Lagos template to Abuja and that is why we are failing. I’m someone who believes in a star-studded cabinet. Today, if you ask me to name 10 ministers in Tinubu’s cabinet and tell you what they did or did not do before they were appointed, I will struggle. That is the truth.”
