FA Cup holders Manchester City are set to clash with Chelsea in the semi-finals at Wembley, while Manchester United will meet second-tier Coventry following Sunday’s draw for the last four.
The draw raises the possibility of a repeat of last season’s all-Manchester FA Cup final, which saw City emerge victorious with a 2-1 win.
Treble-chasing City secured their spot in the semi-finals with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Newcastle on Saturday, while Chelsea needed two stoppage-time goals to overcome Championship promotion chasers Leicester 4-2 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
United, on the other hand, staged a thrilling comeback against Liverpool, coming from behind twice to secure a 4-3 victory at Old Trafford thanks to Amad Diallo’s last-gasp strike in extra time.
In the upcoming semi-finals, United will take on Championship side Coventry, who stunned Wolves 3-2 at Molineux on Saturday with two goals in stoppage time.
United manager Erik ten Hag commented on the challenge, acknowledging Coventry’s spirit and mentality, emphasizing the need for United to play at their best to secure a spot in the final.
Coventry, managed by former United striker Mark Robins, who scored a crucial winner for the club en route to winning the competition in 1990, have a storied FA Cup history, famously winning the trophy in 1987 with a surprise 3-2 victory over Tottenham.
However, they have faced lean years since their relegation from the Premier League in 2001.
Both United and Chelsea are eyeing FA Cup glory, with United hoping to lift the trophy for the first time since 2016, while Chelsea last won the competition in 2018.
