An Oyo High Court has granted an ex-parte motion restraining the Department of State Security (DSS) and Attorney General of the Federation from arresting, intimidating, harassing, and blocking bank accounts of Yoruba activist Chief Sunday Adeyemo also known as Sunday Igboho.
The order was granted by Justice Ladi Akintola following an ex-parte motion moved by his lawyer Chief Yomi Aliu (SAN) at the court on Wednesday.
Igboho had through his counsel, Chief Yomi Aliyu ( SAN), applied to the court asking for N500bn damages for the destruction of his cars and residence in Ibadan during the July 1 raid on his residence by the Department of State Services (DSS).
In Abuja, A Federal High Court, yesterday, admitted the 12 detained associates of Yoruba Igboho to bail.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu, who granted the eight applicants whose requests were not opposed by the DSS a bail in the sum of N5 million, admitted the four others to bail in the sum of N10 million each with two sureties in the like sum.
Communicating with journalists after the court sitting, Igboho’s counsel Yomi Aliu SAN said, “The court has ordered that he must not be arrested, intimidated, harassed, detained, or killed. The court also said that his account should not be blocked.
‘’The court has proved itself as the defender of the masses. The court has granted permission for him to exercise his fundamental human right of free movement.
“Our client Sunday Adeyemo can now walk freely as a Nigerian and his house must not be attacked.’’
The counsel expressed confidence that the Attorney General of Federation Abubakar Malami (SAN) would not disobey the court order, stressing that it was given directly against his office.
The court adjourned the suit to August 18.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the applicants the DSS did not oppose their bail request include: Abdullateef Ademola Onaolapo, Tajudeen Irinloye, Diekola Jubril Ademola, Ayobami Donald, Uthman Opeyemi Adelabu, Olakunle Oluwapelumi, Raji Kazeem, and Taiwo Opeyemi Tajudeen who are 1st, 3rd, 4th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th applicants respectively.
The service, however, urged the court not to grant bail to Amudat Habibat Babatunde, Abideen Shittu, Jamiu Noah Oyetunji, and Bamidele Sunday listed as 2nd, 5th, 6th, and 12th applicants in the application.
Earlier, counsel to the applicants, Pelumi Olajengbesi, had urged the court to grant his clients bail unconditionally.
