Court Orders The Release Of Seized Ikorodu Land By Lagos Govt To The Owner

The decision of the Lagos State Government to seize a parcel of land with Survey Plan No. LS/D/KD/563D located at the Imota Agro-Industrial Park in the state’s Ikorodu area has been ruled unlawful and null and void by the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja.

The state was directed by the court, in a ruling by Justice S.S. Ogunsanya, to give the land back to Abayomi Sadiku, conducting business as Vernia Legal Practitioners, who had bought the 1,000 square meter plot of land for N1 million in 2013.

The claimant received an allocation letter for the land on December 4, 2014, before the Lagos State Government announced in a July 2016 publication that the allocated land had been revoked, according to a certified true copy of the April 13, 2022 judgment sighted by PUNCH.

The claimant, who was upset, went to court and asked for a declaration that the state’s action had violated Sections 28 (1)(2)(3)and(6) and 44(a)(b) of the Land Use Act, Law of the Federation of Nigeria, 1978.

He requested that the action be declared void and that the land be returned to him.
