Court Backs Ibadan PDP Convention, Declares Turaki Legit Chairman — Wike Camp Pushes Back

An Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has validated the November 2025 PDP national convention, affirming Kabiru Tanimu Turaki as the party’s substantive national chairman.
Delivering judgment on Friday, Justice Ladiran Akintola upheld the convention, ruling that it complied with the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended). The court granted all 13 reliefs sought by the claimant, Folahan Malomo Adelabi, through his counsel Musibau Adetunmbi (SAN).
Justice Akintola also dismissed attempts by Austin Nwachukwu and others to halt the case, describing their applications as lacking merit, and ordered Independent National Electoral Commission to “recognise and give full effect” to the outcomes of the Ibadan convention, including the Turaki-led National Working Committee.
The ruling directly clashes with a January 30, 2026 decision of the Federal High Court, Ibadan, which had nullified the same convention and barred Turaki and others from parading themselves as party leaders.
Despite the latest court backing, the Peoples Democratic Party remains split, with a rival bloc aligned to Nyesom Wike reportedly dismissing the judgement as “inconsequential.” Multiple appeals are now before the Court of Appeal, Abuja, leaving the PDP leadership battle unresolved — for now.
