Pelumi Nubi, the intrepid content creator who embarked on a daring solo road trip from London to Lagos, has arrived in Nigeria to an enthusiastic and heroic reception.
Her remarkable journey, spanning continents, captured the attention and admiration of people worldwide.
Upon crossing the Nigeria-Benin Republic border, Pelumi was warmly received on behalf of the Lagos State Government by the Honorable Commissioner of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, and the Special Adviser on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Idris Aregbe.
Their presence symbolized the significance of Pelumi’s achievement and the appreciation for her adventurous spirit.
Pelumi’s arrival in Nigeria marked a significant milestone in her journey, which began on January 31. Despite facing challenges, including a harrowing accident along the way, she remained resilient and determined to reach her destination.
In an interview with Channels Television, Pelumi expressed her joy at being back home said, “I feel so good to be home. Honestly, the homecoming has been so amazing, and really welcoming.
“Honestly, Nigeria is definitely home to me, so it’s more than amazing. I expected the homecoming, but this has been incredible, so thank you so much, I am really grateful, and I can’t wait for the celebration that is waiting for me at Unilag.”
Reflecting on her motivation for the monumental journey, Pelumi emphasized her desire to inspire others, especially young travelers, to step out of their comfort zones and pursue extraordinary adventures.
Her journey served as a testament to the possibilities available to individuals willing to embrace challenges and push beyond boundaries.
In an Instagram post in March, she shared a picture of her now-wrecked car, revealing severe damage to the front bumper and a shattered windscreen.
An accompanying video shows her being carried in an ambulance, with the caption: “Say a prayer for me.”
Pelumi’s parents shared their relief and pride upon her safe arrival in Nigeria. Her father described the past two months as a period of anxiety, highlighting the emotional toll of witnessing her journey from afar.
He said, “I kept on telling people that what looks to you people as content creation is a nightmare for us. Every night we couldn’t sleep, so it’s been two months of fun for the whole world but not for us.”
Despite the inherent risks, Pelumi’s mother supported her daughter’s decision, citing Pelumi’s extensive travel experience and independent spirit.
Throughout her travels, Pelumi has visited over 80 countries, defying stereotypes and inspiring women worldwide to pursue their travel aspirations.
She emphasized the importance of safety considerations for solo female travelers while encouraging them not to let fear hinder their explorations.
“Honestly, I just wanted to show that this kind of travel was very possible for someone who looks like me and really inspires the next generation of travellers to step out of their comfort zone and do incredible things.”
“Each time I try to imagine it (driving into Lagos), I get goosebumps because it’s just been such a tremendous journey, you know, showing people the parts and all of that, and then to get to this finale, and I hear it’s a homecoming like people have rallied up.”
