The Vice President of Colombia, Her Excellency Francia Márquez, has arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, for a three-day official visit to Nigeria. She was accompanied by her spouse, Mr. Rafael Yerney Pinillo Ocoró, alongside cabinet ministers, senior government officials, and business leaders.
On arrival, Márquez was received by Nigeria’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji; Minister of Women Affairs, Hon. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim; Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmud Bunkure; Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar; and other senior government representatives.
The visit marks a significant milestone in Nigeria–Colombia relations and is expected to deepen diplomatic and strategic ties between both nations. Discussions will focus on key areas of mutual interest, including governance, trade, agriculture, energy, education, security, and women’s empowerment.
A major highlight of the trip will be the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in sectors such as trade, aviation, manufacturing, agriculture, culture, and gender equality. The programme will also feature a plenary session with both Vice Presidents, a Nigeria–Colombia Business Forum, bilateral government meetings, and side events such as high-level business engagements hosted by the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment. Additionally, a summit on Artificial Intelligence will be part of the engagements.
The visit forms part of ongoing efforts by both countries to build stronger partnerships that support economic growth, peace, and sustainable development.
