China has issued a sharp rebuke of the United States following its military strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, warning that the move threatens to further destabilize the Middle East and undermines Washington’s global credibility.
The condemnation came during an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council on Sunday, convened after U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that American and Israeli forces had carried out joint attacks on Iranian nuclear sites—strikes Trump claimed had “obliterated” the targets.
Chinese state broadcaster CCTV reported that Beijing expressed “grave concern” over the escalating regional tensions, calling the assault the most serious Western military action against Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
China’s UN Ambassador Fu Cong called on all parties—particularly Israel—to avoid further provocations and to exercise maximum restraint. “All sides must resist the temptation to use force. Escalation will only deepen the conflict and lead to further humanitarian disaster,” Fu told the Council.
Fu reiterated Beijing’s demand for an “immediate and unconditional ceasefire” and backed a resolution—proposed alongside Russia and Pakistan—calling for a halt to hostilities across the region. The resolution also urges renewed diplomatic engagement to prevent the crisis from spilling over into neighboring countries.
In a pointed criticism of Washington, Ambassador Fu questioned the long-term implications of the strike on America’s role in international diplomacy. “Iran has suffered losses, but the United States has also damaged its own credibility—both as a global leader and as a trusted actor in multilateral negotiations,” he said.
Beijing’s remarks signal growing international unease with the widening conflict between the U.S., Israel, and Iran, as global powers push for de-escalation amid fears of a broader regional war.
