Former Republican Representative Liz Cheney responded strongly to comments from Donald Trump that implied she should face violence, calling his remarks the behavior of a dictator.
Trump made the comments at an event in Arizona with Tucker Carlson, where he labeled Cheney a “radical war hawk” and suggested putting her in a situation where guns were pointed at her to see how she would react. This was interpreted by many, including the Harris campaign, as a reference to a firing squad.
In a post on X, Cheney stated, “This is how dictators destroy free nations. They threaten those who speak against them with death. We cannot entrust our country and our freedom to a petty, vindictive, cruel, unstable man who wants to be a tyrant.”
Vice President Kamala Harris condemned Trump’s language as “disqualifying,” saying, “Anyone who wants to be president of the United States, who uses that kind of violent rhetoric, is clearly disqualified and unqualified to be president.” She praised Cheney’s courage in prioritizing the country over party loyalty.
Cheney, a Republican and vocal Trump critic, has endorsed Harris for the 2024 election.
