Former President Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed that he depends on rental income from one of his houses in Kaduna to cover his feeding expenses, reaffirming his claim of not enriching himself while in office.
Buhari shared this during an All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus meeting at the Presidential Banquet Hall in Katsina over the weekend.
Reflecting on his tenure, Buhari described governing Nigeria as an arduous task often underestimated by many. “Nigeria is a difficult country to govern, but most Nigerians are unaware of this. You don’t fully understand the intricacies of leadership or the country itself until you’re in a position of authority,” he stated.
He also noted his improved health since leaving office. “I look much better and healthier now than when I was the president. Anyone who sees me can attest to that,” Buhari said.
Highlighting his modest assets, the former president revealed that, despite serving two terms as Nigeria’s leader, he owns just three houses—one in Daura and two in Kaduna.
“After eight years as a civil president, I have only three houses: one in Daura and two in Kaduna. I’ve rented out one of them, and that’s where I get money for feeding,” Buhari explained, underscoring his simple and frugal lifestyle.
