President Muhammadu Buhari was updated on recent events in Nigeria, including the conclusion of the supplementary elections, during a visit to Saudi Arabia by a few governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other government representatives.

Buhari met with some governors and other officials on the fifth day of his official visit to Saudi Arabia.

Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this in a statement on Sunday.

Buhari met with the governors of Yobe, Babagana Zulum, and Borno, as well as the incoming governor of Katsina, Dikko Umar Radda, at the Makkah Guest Palace.

Others were the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa; Chairman, of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa and ex-Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (retd).

Any success Nigeria has had, according to Buhari, is a result of the country’s strong institutions and exemplary democracy, both of which must be maintained.

The President was praised by the governors for fending off the terrorist threats posed by Boko Haram in their states and for restoring peace.

Speaking about efforts to bring court cases to a close and the strategy to bring charges against more offenders, the head of the EFCC stated that those arrested in connection with election fraud will face legal charges.

In his remarks, the newly elected governor of Katsina reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the campaign promise of an open and transparent government.
