Chief Bode George, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has appealed to Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State to remain loyal to the party, despite the current political challenges.
In an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, George expressed confidence that the PDP would overcome its internal issues and continue as a formidable political force. He also criticized President Bola Tinubu’s actions in Rivers State, calling them “constitutionally wrong.”
Addressing rumors of Fubara possibly defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC), George stated that the governor had not reacted negatively to the situation and had been working to calm his supporters. “I will plead with Fubara to remain steady on his course. He should remain solid on his course, and with the fear of God in him, whatever God has decided will come to pass,” George said.
He emphasized the importance of loyalty to the party’s structure, noting that the PDP has a well-established framework with national leaders and committees. While acknowledging the inevitability of defections, George insisted that they would not cause the collapse of the party.
“Let those who want to decamp do so. People have started to react. Go and visit Rivers State and see the reaction from the people. We did not vote for you to go to APC,” he said, expressing optimism that the PDP’s deep roots would ensure its survival despite any political turbulence.
